Communion is made up of two words, common and union. Common union is our identification with Christ and how we share fully in Him.

The bread and wine were used in the sacrifices of the Old as a foreshadowing of what Christ would accomplish. The sacrifice of bread or meal was the “meat offering” and the sacrifice of wine was the called the “drink offering.”

1 Corinthans 10:16-18

16 The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion (share fully) of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? 17 For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread. 18 Behold Israel after the flesh: are not they which eat of the sacrifices partakers (full participation) of the altar?
